Description
Summary:The presence and significance of sustainable materials may have become generally known. However, there is still work to be done to ensure the implementation in the industry. Several issues must be addressed for the implementation to be successful, and these must be considered by every developer and contractor. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the challenges of sustainable materials used in the construction industry. The objectives are to identify the current practice of sustainable and green construction approaches, to determine the suitable materials or waste materials to be used as sustainable materials for construction and to investigate the benefits of implementing the use of sustainable materials in the construction project. The survey received responses from 50 people. Physical distribution of the survey took place between April 2022 and Mac. The respondent is among the construction players including, the project manager, quantity surveyor, engineer, architect and contractor. The result shows that the main challenges faced by them are lack of expertise, lack of interest and difficulty to accept changes. However, most of the respondent seems to be very familiar with sustainable material for construction. This clearly shows they are aware of the latest information about green implementation in construction. This study also provides suggestions for the betterment of sustainable implementation in construction, which could be significant to the construction players and academia. It is anticipated that the finding of this study will promote sustainable and green construction for the future generation.
