Optimal Hardness Ratio of Wheel Steel and Rail Steel for Minimum Wear

The optimal hardness range of the hardened wheel rim and the rolling surface of the rail is determined, in terms of maximum wear resistance of the wheel–rail pair. Laboratory tests in operational conditions establish the optimal hardness ratio of the wheel and rail.
