Summary: | Adams discusses the fire at Interstate 95 in Philadelphia PA. On June 11, 2023, at approximately 6:19 a.m., the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) faced a critical impact to the transportation network in Philadelphia. A tanker truck carrying approximately 8,500 gallons of fuel had exited from Northbound Interstate 95 (I-95) to Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia and crashed under the I-95 bridge. The crash resulted in a fire that burned directly under the structures supporting four northbound and four southbound travel lanes. I-95 is a vital transportation route for the US, connecting Maine with Florida. In the immediate area of the crash, the roadway averages 160,000 vehicles daily, 12,800 being commercial trucks. The initial response to this incident was shouldered by the City of Philadelphia Fire Department, the City of Philadelphia Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, PennDOT maintenance forces, and the PennDOT Regional Traffic Management Center. |
