Description
Summary:This paper sets out to demonstrate that the religious, political, and socio-economic elements of the conflict in Northern Ireland should be considered as manifestations of a basic cultural divide between the two groups comprising the society of Northern Ireland. To date, insufficient attention has been paid to this cultural divide, which must be bridged if lasting peace is to be achieved. This paper will detail the important role of the educational establishment, particularly Catholic schools, in this reconciliation process.
