Summary: | [LANGUAGE= "English"] Purpose: It was aimed to define and assess the epidemiological properties of burn injuries in pediatric age and to review the protective measures in this study.Material and Methods: All patients were divided into three groups according to their age: newborn (0-2 years), pre-school age (3-6 years) and (7-15 years) preadolescence groups. The patients were analyzed in terms of age, gender, burn agent, burn size, climate distribution of injury, transport conditions, treatment modalities and mortality rates. Results: Hot liquid burns are more common in the newborn and pre-school age groups. However, in the preadolescent group, fire burns are the most common burn agent also with electrical burns (19.3%), being an important factor in this group of age. It was determined that fire burns had higher mortality rates (12.1%) and hot fluid mortality (6.7%) was mostly caused by milk, skim-milk cheese, sauce and pectin. Conclusion: Almost all burn injuries of pediatric age group can be avoided by simple preventions. Society education is the most important step for this purpose. Burn injury occurrence and risks can be represented with audio-visual means of communication. Thereby, attention should be paid to importance of burn injuries and prevention methods. |
