Summary: | [LANGUAGE= "English"] Purpose: The object of the present study is to detect the p53 tumor supressor gene and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), c-erbB-2, bcl-2, FVIII related antigen (FVIIIRA) expression in breast carcinoma by immunohistochemistry, and the correlation with prognostic parameters.Material and Methods: A total of 55 cases with primary breast carcinoma were studied and classified histopathologically using modified Bloom and Richardson. Paraffin sections were stained by using monoclonal antibody p53 protein, PCNA, c-erbB-2, bcl-2, FVIIIRA.Results: Of the 55 cases, 23 (41.81%) were p53 positive and 41 (74.54 %) were PCNA positive. The mean PCNA labelling index (PCNA LI +/- SD) was 58.21+/-25.12. Maximum p53 and PCNA positivity was observed in grade III tumors (52.43% and 85.45%). The mean PCNA LI +/- SD was also highest in grade III carcinomas (62.67+/- 12.85). No significant correlation was found between p53, PCNA, bcl-2, FVIIIRA and c-erbB-2 status with morphological type, tumor size, estrogen and progesterone hormone receptor status except that multivariate and chi- square tests showed C-erB-2 positive correlation with tumor histological grade (p= 0.024 p |
