Description
Summary:A modification of tailplane is required in the conversion of conventional commuter aircraft into amphibian version. Studies have been conducted on modification of the tailplane through extending the horizontal tail plane (HTP) component. The purpose of this research is to select an extension design of HTP component through parametric study of two main configurations. The configuration of extending the span of basic aircraft HTP or with the additional / mini HTP component. There are five configurations of extended HTP component that have been studied. The method used in this research is the wind tunnel testing method. The force and moment acting on aircraft wind tunnel mock-up is processed as aerodynamic coefficient and are calculated as study parameters. The main parameters are neutral point and aerodynamic efficiency. The configuration of extending span has a more significant effect than others. Even though, the aircraft structured load should be considered whether it may lead to modification of horizontal tailplane inner structure of the aircraft.
