Description
Summary:Jatropha curcas is often used as a medicinal plant by traditional ethnic to treat skin and dental diseases. This study aims to reveal the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of leaves and fruit. The antibacterial activity was determined using the agar well method with Streptococcus sobrinus and the antioxidant activity of DPPH free radical scavengers. Inhibition of bacteria S. sobrinus did not appear to be significant with concentrations of 10, 20, 40 µg/ml, on the other hand antioxidant activity with the highest inhibition was found in methanol leaves with a value of 53.5% and 51.9% methanol in fruit with concentration 100 ppm. IC50 value on the leaves and fruit of J. curcas with a value of 50%. J. curcas leaf and fruit have good activity in transferring protons in DPPH activity. There needs to be further research in isolate the compounds that play a role in balancing these free radicals.
