Summary: | This study was intended to evaluate the influence of physical parameters on the formation of Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) through a sample pressing system under dry conditions. YIG, which is formed from solid oxide, is an important compound for the application of circulator components for radar and telecommunications equipment. Sample preparation begins by weighing the solid oxide according to the composition. Solid oxide particle size greatly affects the homogenization quality within powder mixing. Dry pressing conditions determine the quality of the garnet produced with low porosity. The porosity indicator used in this study is the densification parameter. Densification values of more than 70% can be achieved when using a powder size of less than 5 microns and a compacting pressure of about 700 MPa. Garnet with low porosity is physically stiff and strong and exhibits superior microwave response performance. Insertion loss was chosen as the main indicator of microwave response quality in this study. The sample under study has a densification of over 70% and shows a low insertion loss of less than 0.5 dB. The correct pressing technique will produce a garnet with low porosity and insertion loss. |
