P310 The follow-up care of children with musculoskeletal disorders in multi-purpose medical centres

Development and enhancement of the methods of follow-up care for children with musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) are still of great importance.Research objectiveimprove the system of multi-disciplinary and standardised approach in diagnostics of children’s musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) at the consultation department. – develop and put into practice the personal rehabilitation programme (PRP). – analyse the treatment results for children with MSD.MethodsThe group under research comprised 47 children aged 7 months to 16 years. All patients had been pre-examined by the orthopaedic doctor at the Consultation and Diagnostic Clinic; in more than 50% cases various examination methods were used, including ultrasonography (US), radiography, densitometry, computer-assisted tomography and magnetic resonance tomography.This made it possible to break the children into three groups. The first group consisted of 21 children with musculoskeletal pathology in need of conservative treatment, 19 children had medical grounds for surgery and 7 children needed rehabilitation devices.ResultsConservative treatment was undertaken at the Medical Rehabilitation Clinic (MRC) for children with MSD and started with establishing the PRC which involved an orthopaedic doctor, exercise and physiotherapy doctors and, at times, a prosthetic technician.Apart from traditional treatment methods applied to such children, we used kinesitherapy, osteopathic and chiropractic alignment, hardware and software treatment systems, etc. According to the parameters established by us, the treatment efficacy was 94%.Operative therapy using state-of-the-art methodologies was conducted at the 24 hour clinic of the neuro-orthopaedic surgery department. During the post-surgery period patients underwent a complex of all necessary rehabilitation operations at the MRC for children with MSD. The treatment efficacy was 87%.All children in need of orthoses were provided with ottobock (an orthopaedic company) rehabilitation devices.ConclusionsTreatment of children with musculoskeletal disorders and pathologies should start with developing a PRP and establishing an interdisciplinary approach; it should be carried out within a multifaceted medical centre.This will make it possible to shorten the duration of in-hospital treatment and improve its results; as regards cases of serious MS disorders and pathologies, it will bring down children’s disability rate.
