Summary: | Monitoring of downward shortwave solar irradiance or Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) is important because of its many applications in various fields. It provides information for the energy balance of the atmosphere, the climate, agricultural production, and energy production and usage, among others. Already, there are observations describing positive trends of GHI in the last decades, with the major mechanism of this drive being the changes in aerosols’ consecration and the effect of clouds. In this study, we use time series of GHI measurements at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics in Thessaloniki, Greece to investigate the trends for the period 1993-2021. |
