Description
Summary:The influence of the cerium oxide content and the basicity of slag on the viscosity and the temperature of the beginning of solidification of the CaO–SiO 2 –Ce 2 O 3 system containing 15% Al 2 O 3 and 8% MgO is studied using the simplex lattice method of experimental design, which allows us to develop mathematical models describing the composition dependence of a property on the in the form of a continuous function. Experimental data are used to develop mathematical models describing the relationship between the temperature of a given viscosity and the oxide system composition. A set of viscosity contours is then formed by plotting the obtained composition–temperature diagrams of a given viscosity on an isothermal section of the composition–viscosity diagram. The generalization of the results of mathematical modeling and graphic representation on an isothermal section of the composition–viscosity diagram allowed us to obtain new data on the viscosity of the CaO–SiO 2 –Ce 2 O 3 oxide system containing 15% Al 2 O 3 and 8% MgO in the basicity range 2–5 and the content range 0–15% Ce 2 O 3 . The experimental data demonstrate that the oxide system slags that do not contain cerium oxide are characterized by a high temperature of the beginning of solidification and viscosity in the basicity range under study. The presence of cerium oxide in the oxide system slags provides a sufficiently low viscosity and temperature of the beginning of solidification in the temperature range 1500–1550°C. An increase in the cerium oxide content from 1 to 15% in slags with a basicity of 2–3 is accompanied by a decrease in the temperature of the beginning of solidification from 1490 to 1410°C. An increase in the basicity to 5.0 leads to an increase in the temperature of the beginning of solidification to 1520°C. At a temperature of 1500°C, the viscosity of slags with a basicity of 2.0–3.0 containing 7–15% Ce 2 O 3 changes within 0.2–0.3 Pa s. An increase in the slag basicity to 3.0–5.0 at a fixed Ce 2 O 3 content in the range 7–15% is accompanied by an increase in the viscosity of slags to 1.0 Pa s and reaches 2.0 Pa s when the Ce 2 O 3 content decreases to 1–6%. An increase in the temperature to 1550°C at a fixed basicity in the range 3.0–5.0 is accompanied by a significant decrease in the viscosity, which does not exceed 0.35 Pa s at 1–15% Ce 2 O 3 .
