Summary:In this work, we report a tetranuclear Co 4 cluster, namely [Co 4 (L) 2 ( μ 2 -OCH 3 ) 2 ( μ 3 -OCH 3 ) 2 (CH 3 OH) 2 ]·2CH 3 OH ( 1 , H 2 L = 2-{[(2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methylidene]amino}benzoic acid). The complex was synthesized and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray crystallography reveals that complex belongs to the monoclinic crystal system, space group P 2 1 /n. Further, their fluorescence and magnetic properties are also discussed. The variable temperature magnetic susceptibilities for complex indicate the existence of antiferromagnetic exchange interactions.
