Summary: | The advent of the e-Health paradigm involves radical changes in the methodologies for the design of application of information and communication technologies to health systems. This paradigm places the citizen in the center of the healthcare, what represents new challenges regarding both the healthcare process, which is moved from a centralized hospital-based model to a distributed and ubiquitous care, and the way technologies need to be applied to make this shift possible. In particular, special attention must be paid to interoperability in order to yield sustainable systems. This paper explores some of the major implications, focusing on the differences between the traditional design-engineering approaches and the methodologies required for the efficient application of the e-Health paradigm. |
