Effect of different tool pin profiles on the joint quality of friction stir welded AA 6063 - A review
In this paper, an attempt was made to investigate the effect of different tool pin profiles on joint quality in terms of tensile strength during friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminum alloy 6063. 4.75 mm thick AA6063-T6 plates were FSW welded. Summary: | In this paper, an attempt was made to investigate the effect of different tool pin profiles on joint quality in terms of tensile strength during friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminum alloy 6063. 4.75 mm thick AA6063-T6 plates were FSW welded. Five different hot rolled steel pin profile tools were used. The results of the study showed that the tapered cylindrical tool pin profile exhibited maximum tensile strength. Furthermore, the formation of a tunnel defect in a weld joint and recommendations for removing/minimizing this defect were discussed. |
