Description
Summary:The rapid-quenching route was used to prepare Na 2 B 4 O 7 –CaO–SiO 2 glass formulations with various Cr 2 O 3 concentrations. XRD analyses were used to determine the amorphous states of glasses. With the addition of Cr 2 O 3 , the glass density increased while molar volume reduces. The elastic moduli and velocities have been discovered to be affected by Cr 2 O 3 concentration. A theoretical model of the prepared glasses’ gamma-ray shielding ability has also been developed. With increasing photon energy, the mass attenuation coefficient values were found to reduce. As a result, G 5 glass provides more shielding than other glasses. Incorporating Cr 2 O 3 into the investigated glass compositions has a significant influence on their mechanical and gamma shielding features, according to the findings of this study. In the future, this research could be used to improve mechanical efficiency and reduce radiation’s harmful effects on organisms.
