Summary: | With about 429,000 new cancer cases in children worldwide diagnosed annually (Lam et al.), non-pharmacological interventions, such as music therapy (Franco et al.), social robotics (Meghdari et al.), and psychoeducational interventions, are used to facilitate recovery and the illness process for the patient and their families (Silva Ferreira and Rodrigues). Literature can also be used in non-pharmacological interventions as an educational tool. This should be adjusted to the literary genre suitable for the target audience, considering their age and the type of language used (Cavallini 4). Additionally, the message is a fundamental aspect to consider. As Heisig (97) describes in “Bruno Bettelheim and the Fairy Tales,” a child can identify with the characters in a story, enabling them to convey cultural values such as justice, courage, and love. |
