Effect of histone deacetylase inhibitor sodium butyrate on viability and life span in Drosophila melanogaster

Description
Summary:Recently, histone acetylation, which is one of the key epigenetic mechanisms controlling gene expression, has been shown to play an important role in determining lifespan. There are some data that indicate the geroprotective potential of histone deacetylase inhibitors. In the present work, we studied the influence of sodium butyrate, a histone deacetylase inhibitor, on the parameters of viability and lifespan of Drosophila melanogaster . Since sodium butyrate is an effective inducer of epigenetic changes, its application as a life-extending agent (geroprotector) seems rather promising.
