Summary: | Gold leaf has been used to decorate book edges for centuries. Gilding not only adds a luxurious sparkle to the edges of the pages of a book, but it also protects the edge from dust. Rough-edge gilding is not rough at all: it means that rather than the edge being a solid block of gold, the appearance of the individual pages is retained. This technique of gilding is done prior to the sewing of the book. The technique is much more forgiving than solid-edge gilding and it is equally as beautiful. |
