Summary: | The bitumen, a viscous, thick liquid, comes from crude oil. It is used with aggregates to create bituminous roads. Mineral aggregates are created by mixing crushed stone, gravel, or sand with bitumen to create the road surface. An extremely durable, water-repellent surface is created using bitumen as a binder. Bitumen may be changed by chemicals to enhance the functionality of roads. By carefully selecting and evaluating aggregates for their physical qualities and performance characteristics, the long-term durability and safety of the road surface may be guaranteed at 61%, a maximum of 3%. Modifiers like crumb rubber and LDPE are often used to improve the performance and characteristics of bitumen. When used as a bitumen modifier, it can improve the pavement’s resistance to rutting, fatigue life, and cracking. Crumb rubber can be used to strengthen the pavement’s resistance to ruts, fatigue life, and fractures. The physical properties of crumb rubber-modified bitumen, such as penetration, softening point, elastic recovery, and ductility, are represented at different percentages in accordance with the MORTH requirements. The bitumen and aggregate adhesion may be improved by the LDPE layer, increasing the pavement’s resilience and durability. |
