Summary: | Oil and grease are considered pollutants in wastewater that have negative effects as they represent a buffer layer that reduces dissolved oxygen in wastewater, which affects the biological process in wastewater treatment. It also causes malfunctions in units of wastewater treatment plants. One method of treating O&G in wastewater is the use of chemicals and alum has been used and appropriate doses have been determined by jar testing. Four samples of wastewater were collected from four different treatment plants and appropriate doses of alum were added to them according to the degree of turbidity. They underwent coagulation and flocculation operations. The oil and grease concentrations were measured before and after adding the alum solution. It was found that alum has a good effect in removing and reducing oils and grease from wastewater, removing almost half and more of its concentration. Where it removed 74% of the oils and grease from the wastewater entering the first WWTP, 67% for the second WWTP, 67% for the third WWTP, and 65% for the fourth WWTP. |
