Summary: | [Methods] Taking Taitian 264 , Zhexuetian 1 and Chaotian 4 as the research objects, the changes in germination potential, germination index, plant height, biomass, and antioxidant enzyme activity of maize seeds were studied under optimal temperature conditions (25 °C ) and low temperature stress conditions (10 °C ). [...]early sowing poses risks such as seed swelling damage caused by sudden cold temperature, especially at night, which can adversely affect germination rates and result in poor or nonviable seedlings, impacting overall economic returns. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activity , as well as malondialdehyde ( MDA) content, were measured during seed germination on specific days using reagent kits from Suzhou Komabio Biotechnology Co. , Ltd. 3 Results and analysis 3.1 Germination rate and germination index of maize varieties under different temperature conditions Under low temperature stress (10 G ) , Taitian 264 showed significantly higher germination rate and germination index compared to Zhexuetian 1 and Chaotian 4. Under optimal temperature conditions (25 G ) , the germination index of Taitian 264 and Chaotian 4 was significantly higher than that of Zhexuetian 1, while there was no significant difference in germination rate among the varieties ( Table 1 ) . |
