Encapsulation of neem seed oil in alginate/lignin-black liquor matrix

description Neem seed oil (NSO) has been widely used as a biopesticide. The azadirachtin content in the NSO have role as an antifeedant and inhibited insect growth. However, the use of neem oil as a biopesticide was limited by susceptibility to photodegradation when exposed to UV light. This study aimed to encapsulate NSO in an alginate/lignin-black liquor and to characterize the efficiency, degree of swelling and release of NSO. As the results, increasing the lignin-black liquor content in the matrix decreased the efficiency of NSO in the matrix. Meanwhile, increasing lignin-black liquor content in the matrix, increases the degree of swelling and the NSO release.
