Description
Summary:The chemical composition and zonation of monazite from a rare metal pegmatite dike of the Britholite zone of the Burpala pluton (North Baikal region) is studied with electron microprobe analysis (EMPA). It is established that monazite includes two varieties: Ce and La. The monazite-(Ce) has higher Nd 2 O 3 and ThO 2 contents in comparison with monazite-(La). The average weighted chemical Th–U–total Pb isochron age of monazite is 251 ± 31 Ma. The isochron age of monazite is 273 ± 69 Ma. These age values indicate that the pegmatites of the Britholite zone intruded after the pegmatites of the northwestern area and allow the suggestion of several stages of origination of rare metal pegmatites in the pluton.
