Summary: | The development of a spectrophotometric approach that is simple and accurate for the determination of pure methyldopa as well as its pharmacological preparations. The method involved coupling methyldopa with p-aminophenol in the presence of potassium periodate (PPI) as an oxidizing agent. Maximum absorption of the colored product occurred at 593 nm. Within a concentration range of 1.0-17.5 µg. mL-1, Beer’s law was observed to hold true, and the molar absorptivity value is 0.9694x104 L.mol-1. cm-1. It was determined that the determination coefficient (R2) was 0.9967. The limits of detection and quantitation were (0.262, 0.874) µg/mL, respectively. The ratio of reaction between PAP and methyldopa has been determined to be 1:1. The method was confirmed, and the assay results for two distinct brands of methyldopa tablets were analytically acceptable. |
