Summary:A new diphenylethylene derivative, (Z)-2,4-dimethoxy-6-(4-methoxystyryl)benzaldehyde ( 1 ), along with the known alternariol ( 2 ), alternariol 4,10-dimethyl ether ( 3 ), and alternariol 4-methyl ether ( 4 ), were isolated from a mangrove endophytic fungus Alternaria sp. R6. The structure of 1 was elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analysis, and those of the others were established by comparison with corresponding literature data. Compound 1 displayed weak inhibitory activities against Colletotrichum musae , Fusarium oxysporum , and Escherichia coli (serotype O6).
