Summary:Near-infrared (NIR) luminescence in Bi 3 ScMo 2 O 12 is reported for the first time. Lanthanides Nd 3+ and Yb 3+ are used to obtain near-infrared emission. Characteristic NIR emission from Nd 3+ was observed in the form of lines around 897 and 1068 nm. Yb 3+ by itself did not show any PL. However, by virtue of Nd 3+ → Yb 3+ energy transfer, characteristic emission of Yb 3+ could be obtained.
