Description
Summary:Blocking Sound with Silk In article number 2313328 by Yoel Fink and co‐workers, sound control using traditional fabrics is explored. A silk fabric with a piezoelectric fiber emits 70 dB of sound. Surprisingly, by dynamically suppressing vibrations in a 130‐micron silk monolayer, transmitted sound decreases by 75% and acoustic reflectivity increases by 68%. These findings present opportunities in apparel, transportation, and architecture.
