description | Rural settings offer numerous opportunities for development, and the use of thematic maps can be an effective tool for identifying and addressing strategic issues in these areas. This study used a one-year action research methodology to examine the use of a rural thematic map in the rural site of Baturetno, in Malang Regency. The result of this study is a rural thematic map that is easy to understand and includes several strategic actions. The development of the map of Baturetno’s potentials were based on the curated issue and community self-implementation by combining digital tools and firsthand observation. The rural issues were assessed using the SWOT framework and developed through informal and formal participation on the ground. The issues are then classified as macro, mezzo, and micro to construct the proposed rural thematic map. This map can serve as a useful resource for policymakers, community leaders, and other stakeholders working to promote development in rural areas. |
