Summary:Histopathological changes are widely used as biomarkers of the health status of fish exposed to chemical compounds. Individuals of the common kilka Clupeonella caspia Svetovidov, 1941 caught from the Middle Caspian Sea exhibited significant changes in the cellular structure of the liver. The more common were signs of hyperemia: an edema of the liver parenchyma, vascular congestion, lympho-macrophage infiltration, small hemorrhages, and a narrowing of the bile duct lumen.
