Summary:There are many factors affecting the machine setup time. The machine set up time is the most important time performing different operations on a Lathe machine. The most commonly job or work holding devices are three jaws and four jaws chucks in a lathe machine. It also includes job setting time. A single lathe workshop owner/operator can reduced machine set up time by using Four jaws and Three jaws chucks simultaneously in the Lathe machine. This reduced time increases its overall productivity and profit in a day. This paper emphasis the study of Four Jaws and Three Jaws chucks if used simultaneously can reduced not only Machine Set up time but also saving of man hour i.e. labour. The authors in this paper used time study method for calculating the exact machine setup time. It has been observed that using four jaw chuck and three jaw chuck the machine set up time is reduced.
