Description
Summary:In this paper, the authors proposed to apply a Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm to track the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of a grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system. Since MPP maximizes the output power of a solar PV system for a given set of conditions and therefore maximizes the PV efficiency, thus an MPP can minimize the cost of investing. Besides designing a P&O algorithm for MPP tracking to maximize the power extraction to the grid of a rooftop 5-kWp PV system, the other goal of this paper is reducing power oscillation to enhance the power quality of the grid-tie PV inverter. Simulation results in the time domain of the studied grid-connected 5-kWp rooftop solar PV system with different operating conditions are shown by using MATLAB/SIMULINK toolbox. By observing the simulation results, it's clear to conclude that the designed P&O algorithm not only shows a better performance of the MPP tracking but also improves the damping characteristic of the studied system.
