Summary: | In the backdrop of electricity access to remote and rural destinations, a model has been developed keeping the existing infrastructure of distribution lines, incorporating Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and neglecting the function of boost transformers,. The scheme incorporates the application of series capacitors mainly to find out the maximum distance to which the power can be delivered to the remotest consumer, without compromising on the quality of voltage at the last mile. Further investigation has also revealed the role of series capacitors in reducing system losses which is a malady in the Indian Electricity Distribution Systems. Optimization done using Genetic Algorithm in MATLAB is validated by a real distribution system simulated in PSCAD. The study yields the economic gains from the perspective of the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and also DERs Agencies (DRAs), who may sell power. |
