Summary: | Objective: To evaluate the urban sustainability of the Águas Claras region, a satellite city of Brasília in the Federal District in Brazil, using a sample of indicators proposed by Martins and Candido (2015). The research aims to understand the impact of rapid urbanization on local sustainability from the perspective of sustainable development. Theoretical Framework: It is based on the concepts of sustainable development and sustainability indicators, focusing on the interrelationship between the environment, society and economy. Method: Combines literature review with analysis of satellite images obtained through Google Earth Pro, compared with socioeconomic data from the District Household Sample Survey (PDAD), in a case study in the satellite city of Águas Claras. A sample of 18 indicators was used based on the Martins and Candido (2015) model, distributed across four dimensions: ecoenergetic rationality, urban metabolism, purity and equity. Results and Discussion: The results obtained revealed a positive general scenario in terms of sustainability, with strong environmental and urban regulations. However, high population density and demographic pressure highlight significant challenges. The analysis suggests that while there is progress in areas such as water supply and sanitation, reliance on private transport compromises long-term sustainability. Implications of the Research: The research contributes to the understanding of contemporary urban challenges, offering a basis for formulating more effective public policies in urban areas. Originality/Value: The study proposes a practical approach to evaluating urban sustainability in a specific region, providing relevant data for improving public policies. |
