Description
Summary:The study analyzes the changes in the Neva Bay bottom morphology. The aim is to calculate the dynamics of the volume and area variation of the water body under consideration. The work examines those anthropogenic phenomena which had the most profound influence on the alterations in the Neva Bay bottom morphology. The Neva Bay has partially lost its functions as the Neva River detention basin. To build digital models, we used historical data from the Navy archives. Noticeable changes in the impact of the Neva Bay bottom topography on the water exchange processes were recorded due to the construction of the Seaway Canal protective dam, the works to raise the ground elevations in the western part of Vasilyevsky and Krestovsky Islands, and the construction of the Flood Prevention Facility Complex dams.
