Summary:System accident that occurred in the Brazilian power grid on August 15, 2023 has been analyzed. The course of the accident, its consequences, and causes that led to significant damage to consumers have been reviewed from several perspectives, including the operation of automatic devices designed to prevent, eliminate, and minimize the consequences of emergency situations. A comparison of approaches to automatic emergency control devices in Brazil and Russia is presented.
