Description
Summary:The work of law enforcement officers consists of a combination of high and low intensity activities, so it is essential that they maintain good physical fitness and optimal nutritional status. The objective of this study was to determine the lifestyles and body composition of aspiring Municipal Control agents in Guayaquil-Ecuador. Lifestyles were determined by applying the validated FANTASTIC questionnaire, while eating habits were identified through a food consumption frequency questionnaire. Body composition was established with a bioimpedance scale. In addition, weight, height, and waist and hip circumferences were taken. As a result, it was obtained that both men (41%) and women (13%) presented a good lifestyle. Food consumption was characterized by insufficient intake of dairy products and derivatives (88%), vegetables and greens (73%), fruits (73%), cereals and derivatives (66%), fats and derivatives (57%). However, a high consumption of fast foods (56%), snacks (51%) and soft drinks (68%) was reflected. In reference to the anthropometric parameters and indices, the highest percentage was found to be of normal weight (47%). Finally, body fat showed levels of obesity (43%) and overweight (24%). The lifestyles were good in the aspiring Municipal control agents, however, both inadequate food intake and high levels of adiposity could constitute long-term risk factors for the appearance of chronic non-communicable diseases.
