Description
Summary:In this creative work, "Dear Mosquito: A Practice," the author writes a letter to the narrator of the novel Mosquito as a conversational offering that follows Jones's lead and use of her narrator to put forward important practices for those engaged in liberatory literary work. That is, through Mosquito, Jones argues for starting stories when they need to start and centering Black readers rather than non-Black readers who may need more explanation and contextualization. Moreover, Jones's narrator inspires others in the Black Diaspora to take seriously the urgent questions of political interiority and practice that are at the core of her creation. By writing to Mosquito herself, the letter writer invites readers to go back to the text to look for signposts for their own routes to escape professional demands to be confessional, digestible, linear, and performative.
