Summary: | Frank Gormley was an NHS doctor his entire working life. He was born in Plumbridge, County Tyrone, in 1934 and studied medicine at University College Dublin, graduating in 1958. He did house jobs in Dublin and worked in casualty at Baggot St Hospital before returning to Northern Ireland, initially to the Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast. He joined general practice in Belfast in the early 1960s but left for London at the end of 1975 and took on a single handed practice at the Finsbury Health Centre, Islington, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. His later years were spent near Falmouth, Cornwall, where he maintained a keen interest in politics and is fondly remembered locally for always being impeccably dressed. He married former nurse, Anne Greene, in 1962. They had two children: Mark, a journalist, and Jane, who followed in Frank’s footsteps to become a GP. |
