Summary: | The Periplus of PseudoScylax (an ancient Greek document from the mid-fourth century B.C.E. that listed the ports and coastal landmarks in order with approximate distances between them so that the captain of a vessel could find them along the shore), another testimony alluding to the site's administrative status, states that both Dor and apparently Joppa were under Sidonian sovereignty. Instead of relying on written field notes (in most cases still hand written and highly individualized depending on the training and personal style of the area supervisor), measurements taken manually, schematic renderings of find spots, plan and section drawings, and photographs, we intend to develop a less time-consuming and more accurate documentation process. |
