Summary: | [...] it may be worthwhile to approach the question of archaeological evidence for a religious community at Qumran from a different angle. [...] it should be asked: does the elimination of the Dead Sea Scrolls from the context of Qumran necessarily mandate the automatic exclusion of a religiously minded communal group inhabiting the site during its later phases? At UCLA, in collaboration with William Schniedewind and Aaron Burke, I sought to apply these advances in digital modeling to field archaeology in order to develop a methodology for using digital modeling to test various archaeological reconstructions of sites with disputed interpretations. [...] the end product was a three-dimensional model that could also be navigated by end users in real time. |
