Summary: | An abstract of a study by Hildebrand et al identifying the unique and motivating values of parents with children aged six to 11 years that may influence the nutrition and activity behaviors in the family environment and exploring the meaning given to nutrition/physical activity recommendations is presented. Results show that parents wanted their families to eat better and be active but lacked needed skills for buying and preparing healthful foods balanced with limited income and time. Providing simple, practical, and relevant "how-to" messages tied to important core values may provide the motivation needed for parents to implement change. |
