Summary:The concepts of self, ideal self, and spouse were evaluated by means of the Interpersonal Check List in a group of Ss determined to be satisfactorily married and in a group classified as less satisfactorily married. The interrelationships of these measures were then established. "Generally, the findings support the theory that perception of (a) self and ideal self and (b) ideal self and spouse are significantly related to marital satisfaction." The implications of these findings for marital counseling are considered.
