Summary: | The Clark monograph, "America's Psychologists," (1957) seems of such importance, in its implications regarding desirable training and career planning in the profession, that matter appearing to supplement or amend its findings would seem of special timeliness. This article therefore reports a doctoral project at Ohio State University (OSU) begun before the appearance of the volume but somewhat modified in the light of it. The project had two special features: (a) It made intensive inquiry regarding men receiving their doctorates 10 years or more ago at OSU with special effort to obtain, from the recollection of the older faculty there, significant items in the background and training of these individuals; (b) it sought broader perspectives by comparing the OSU graduates in certain respects with the psychologists in Volume 4 of "History of Psychology in Autobiography" (Langfeld, 1952) and with scientists in the Cox monograph on 300 geniuses, the information about them given there being supplemented by other information as in encyclopedias. |
