Summary:A decade ago a hypothesis introduced to explain tardive dyskinesia (TD) implicated free radicals generated secondary to neuroleptic treatment. Since then many preclinical and clinical studies have investigated this possibility. These studies suggest that free radicals are probably involved in the pathogenesis of TD and that vitamin E could be efficacious in its treatment.
