Summary: | The researchers adapted Landreth's 10-week filial therapy training
model (
Landreth,
1991
) into a 9-week training program at a school. Using
qualitative research methodology, this study provides six parents'
evaluation of the Filial Therapy program, with emphasis on specific components
of the training, thereby contributing to the body of Filial Therapy research.
Their parenting stress decreased; however, the stress due to personal awareness
and efforts to appropriately apply the new skills increased. Future researchers
need to include larger sample sizes, include participants from diverse
backgrounds, and use interviewers who are not the trainers or co-leaders.
Improvement could be made by using qualitative and/or quantitative research to
compare the effects of different theoretical applications in the training. |
