Summary: | In this article, the author responds to six questions, as a means of providing personal views, expectations, hopes, and prescriptions for the development of psychology, in Europe or elsewhere, at the turn of the century. The six questions are as follows: (1) What led you initially to choose psychology as a field of study and as a scientific or professional career? (2) What were the three to four most significant developments in scientific or professional psychology in the 20th century? (3) How do you think psychology will fare in this new, 21st century, what major innovations will occur, what might hamper the development of psychology? (4) How could or should psychology bring more benefits to society and to human development in general? (5) Reference is often made to American influences in psychology. Can you identify a specific "European psychology," and is it desirable and/or feasible, in your opinion, to develop a distinctive European approach to psychology? (6) If you had three wishes free for the future of psychology as a science or profession, what would they be? (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved) |
