Summary: | Beringer presents an obituary for psychologist Stanley Nelson Roscoe, who died on November 18, 2007 because of lung cancer. Roscoe earned a master's degree in 1947 and the first doctorate in 1950 in what is now called engineering psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, specializing in aviation and early synthetic flight displays. He received several awards from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, including the Alexander C. Williams Jr. Award for design contributions to the Convair F-106/Hughes MA-1 aircraft and weapons control system, the Paul M. Fins Award for educating human factors scientists, and the President's Distinguished Service Award. In 1976, he received a career award from Division 21 of the American Psychological Association and a fellowship in the Royal Aeronautical Society of Great Britain. |
