Summary: | Hayden explores how the books and articles of planning consultant Peter Marris advanced understanding of the complex intersection of private life and public life. While his earlier works had tracked specific planning efforts, his later ones, including Meaning and Action, about renewal in the London Docklands, and The Politics of Uncertainty: Attachment in Private and Public Life, linked psychiatrists' and psychologists' theories of attachment with planners' analyses of inequality. To an audience in psychiatry and psychology, he introduced large urban political questions, and to an audience in planning and social policy, he demonstrated how to analyze the fullest personal consequences of complex public decisions. |
