Summary:Because they are attended by heads of state, these biennial summits have the potential to become the pre-eminent international forum where the state of global nuclear material security is evaluated and where new commitments are made to improve the world's defenses against nuclear terrorism. According to the IAEA, there have been 1,600 cases of illicit nuclear trafficking since 1993.\n These key stakeholder groups need to be brought into more regular contact as part of a new, multidisciplinary nuclear material security "Iron Triangle."
